Day 4 Stonethwaite to Grasmere ( 8 miles)

An early start today. We were trying to miss the wet weather coming in. No chance. We left Stonethwaite and headed up the valley towards Inning crag. It started off quite gentle getting steeper as we went. Some of us found it harder than others to climb the rocks.

The weather got gradually worse. Gail was so wet she dropped her shorts in favour of her waterproof trousers the people on the crag thought dusk had arrived early.

We reached the crag thinking it was the top no such luck there was another steep ascent to the ridge.

By now the mist had come in and we became a little disorientated. After 30 mins deliberation we decided on a route. Gary fell in the mud up to his knees and Jacqui slid down the hill on her backside. We were all wet to our pants.

On top of Calf’s Gill we came across a girl who had broken her ankle. Gary and Sean were the heroes and administered first aid and gave up their survival blanket. On the way down we called for help.

At last we were down in the valley, the sun came out and we steamed nicely!! We arrived at chestnut villa, Grasmere at 3.15
